General Questions
What is remedial massage?
Remedial massage is a therapeutic treatment focused on addressing specific musculoskeletal problems, chronic pain, and injuries. Unlike relaxation massage, remedial massage uses targeted techniques including deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release to resolve pain and restore function. Each session is tailored to your specific condition and goals. Learn more about remedial massage.
How long are appointments?
Standard appointments are 60 minutes, which includes consultation, treatment, and time for questions.
How much does treatment cost?
60-minute Remedial Massage: $110
60-minute Lymphatic Drainage: $120
60-minute Sports Massage: $110

Do you offer health fund rebates?
Health fund rebates may be available depending on your level of cover. I am a registered remedial massage therapist, and many health funds provide rebates for remedial massage therapy. Please bring your health fund card to your appointment and check with your provider about your specific coverage.

Treatment-Specific Questions
What conditions do you specialise in treating?
I specialise in:
Neck pain and stiffness
Shoulder tension and pain
Tension headaches and migraines
Sports injuries
Chronic pain conditions including fibromyalgia
What techniques do you use?
I combine multiple techniques tailored to your needs:
Deep tissue massage for chronic tension
Trigger point therapy for referred pain
Myofascial release for restricted movement
Dr. Vodder lymphatic drainage for inflammation
Acupressure for pain relief
Sports massage for athletic recovery
Each treatment is customised based on your condition and goals. Learn more about these techniques on the services page.
What is lymphatic drainage and how is it different from regular massage?
Lymphatic drainage is a specialised, very gentle technique that stimulates the flow of lymph fluid to reduce inflammation, clear inflammatory proteins, and support immune function.
Unlike traditional massage that uses firm pressure on muscles, lymphatic drainage uses light, rhythmic movements just below the skin surface. I use the Dr. Vodder method, which is the original and most recognised technique. It's effective for many conditions including fibromyalgia, arthritis, post-surgical swelling, sinus congestion, and chronic fatigue. Learn more about lymphatic drainage.
Can you help with headaches?
Yes, I specialise in treating tension headaches, cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck), and migraine-associated muscle tension.
Treatment addresses underlying causes including forward head posture, neck tension, trigger points, and jaw clenching. Most clients experience reduced headache frequency and severity without medication. Learn more about headache treatment.
Do you treat sports injuries?
Absolutely. With a background as a competitive swimmer and 18 years of professional experience, I understand athletic injuries and recovery needs. I treat muscle strains, tendonitis, overuse injuries, IT band syndrome, and provide pre-event, post-event, and maintenance massage for athletes of all levels.
What is forward head posture and can you treat it?
Forward head posture occurs when your head sits forward from its natural alignment, commonly caused by computer work and phone use. For every inch your head moves forward, your neck and shoulders work exponentially harder. This creates chronic tension, trigger points, headaches, and shoulder pain. I specialise in treating this condition through targeted massage, postural correction, and exercises. Learn more about forward head posture.
Is massage painful?
This depends on the type of treatment. Deep tissue massage and trigger point work may involve some temporary discomfort, particularly in very tight areas, but it should feel productive, not intolerable. Lymphatic drainage is extremely gentle with very light pressure. I always work within your comfort level and check in regularly to adjust pressure. You should never experience sharp or unbearable pain.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Your first appointment includes:
Discussion of your health history, pain patterns, and goals
Explanation of my treatment approach
Hands-on treatment tailored to your needs
Self-care recommendations and exercises if appropriate
Opportunity to ask questions and discuss ongoing treatment
Practical Questions
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing. You'll undress to your comfort level - most people undress to underwear or sports underwear. You'll be professionally draped with towels throughout the treatment, with only the area being worked on exposed at any time.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just bring yourself and your health fund card if you have one. I provide everything needed for your treatment including towels and any therapeutic products used during the session.
How often should I have massage?
This depends on your condition and goals:
Acute pain/injury: 2-3 times per week initially
Chronic conditions: Weekly for 4-6 weeks, then reduce frequency
Maintenance/prevention: Fortnightly to monthly
Sports performance: Weekly to fortnightly during heavy training
General wellness: Monthly
I'll recommend a treatment plan specific to your needs during your first appointment, which can be adapted according to how your body responds.
Will I be sore after treatment?
Some soreness for 24-48 hours after deep tissue work is normal as tissues respond to treatment. This is similar to post-exercise soreness and indicates your body is healing. Lymphatic drainage rarely causes soreness.
Drinking plenty of water and gentle movement helps. If you experience unusual or severe pain, please contact me.
Can I exercise after my appointment?
This depends on the type of treatment:
After deep tissue/sports massage: Light activity is fine, but avoid intense exercise for 24 hours
After lymphatic drainage: Gentle activity like walking is beneficial
After relaxation massage: Resume regular activity when comfortable
I'll give you specific advice based on your treatment.
Health & Safety Questions
Do you treat pregnant women?
Yes, remedial massage can be beneficial during pregnancy, particularly for back pain, neck tension, and pregnancy-related discomfort. Lymphatic drainage can help with pregnancy-related swelling. Please let me know if you're pregnant when booking so I can adapt the treatment appropriately.
Are there any conditions you can't treat?
I cannot provide massage therapy if you have:
Active infection or fever
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Recent surgery (without medical clearance)
Active cancer (without oncologist approval)
Blood clots or DVT Severe osteoporosis
For specific medical conditions, please discuss with me before booking. I may request medical clearance from your doctor for certain conditions.
Is treatment suitable for people with fibromyalgia?
Yes! I have experience treating fibromyalgia. Lymphatic drainage is particularly effective as it reduces inflammation and clears inflammatory proteins without the deep pressure that can aggravate fibromyalgia pain. Many clients with fibromyalgia find regular lymphatic drainage improves their pain levels, sleep quality, and overall wellbeing. Treatment is always tailored to your sensitivity level.
Can you help with post-surgical swelling?
Yes, lymphatic drainage is highly effective for reducing post-surgical swelling. The gentle technique helps clear fluid and inflammatory proteins, speeds healing, reduces scar tissue formation, and decreases post-surgical pain. I recommend waiting until your surgeon provides clearance (usually 2-4 weeks post-surgery) before beginning treatment.
Is your clinic accessible?
Unfortunately, the clinic is not wheelchair accessible.
