Hydration & Massage: Why water matters more than you might think
You've probably heard me mention drinking water after your massage, but did you know that staying well-hydrated before your session is just as important? Here's why your water bottle is one of your best wellness tools:
Before your massage:
When you arrive well-hydrated, your muscles and fascia are more pliable and responsive to therapeutic work. Think of it like the difference between working with soft clay versus dried-out clay – hydrated tissues allow me to work more effectively and comfortably. You'll likely find the massage feels better and we can achieve deeper, more lasting results.
After your massage:
Massage therapy helps move metabolic waste products that have built up in your tissues. These need to be flushed out through your lymphatic system and kidneys. Without adequate water, these waste products can linger, potentially leaving you feeling sluggish, wiped out, nauseous, or achy the next day instead of refreshed and renewed.
The practical approach:
Aim to drink water steadily throughout the day before your appointment – not just a big glass right before you arrive! After your massage, continue with gentle, consistent hydration over the following 24-48 hours.
Your body will thank you with better results from your massage and a smoother recovery process. It's one of the simplest ways to get the most from your therapeutic investment.
